PRACTICAL TIPS
SHOULD I WASH A CLOTHING?
There are times when airing and brushing the clothes is enough if they are not dirty. If you do, you will save energy and your clothes will last longer.
DETERGENT
If you use a detergent with eco-labels, you will help the environment. Try not to use more detergent than what appears in the instructions on the package. Using larger amounts can cause stains on clothing and cause skin problems.
SOFTENER
Fabric softener is an unnecessary expense and is highly harmful to the environment.
BLEACH
Use bleach only in cold water and for a maximum of one hour. Do not use iron, copper or brass containers.
HAND WASH
Remember to dissolve the detergent well before putting the clothes in. For the first few washes, separate the garment, as the water can color it.
WASHING MACHINE
Use the washing machine at full capacity. To wash a few items of clothing, it is advisable to use a low energy consumption program, an option available in most modern washing machines. Remember to empty your pockets.
WASHING TEMPERATURE
Always respect the indicated washing temperature. Colored garments that must be washed at 60 degrees may fade if washed at 40 degrees or by hand. It is not always better to wash at a lower temperature.
DRYING
It is advisable to spin the clothes well before drying them. Remember that open air is the best dryer, although avoid exposing the clothes directly to the sun, to prevent them from losing color.
IRON
Classify your clothes according to the temperature rating on the label and start with the lowest. It is better that the clothes are somewhat damp to iron them. When finished, and before the iron cools, remove any remaining residue with a damp cloth.
RECYCLE YOUR CLOTHES
Donate the clothes you no longer wear to organizations that distribute them to people in need. This way, you will extend the useful life of your clothes.
DENIM
Denim owes its appearance to a coloring technique that, when washed, can release small color pigments that fade. Wash your jeans inside out so they don't lose color and prevent white marks from forming in wrinkles.
MARKERS
Put tennis balls in the dryer to get even distribution of the filling.
THICK KNIT GARMENTS
Thick knitted garments should be dried wrapped in a towel and in a horizontal position, so that they retain their original shape.
WATERPROOF CLOTHING
To dry waterproof clothing you just have to let it drain. If you prefer to put it in the dryer, remember that it must always be at very low temperatures.
THE TISSUES
WOOL
It shrinks if washed at very high temperatures and deforms if it is hung to dry. It is a good thermal insulator. It tends to clump and yellow.
COTTON
Shrinks if washed at too high a temperature. It withstands ironing well and, if it has color, it should be washed separately the first time. It is cool, flexible and high resistance. Tends to wrinkle.
LINEN
It should always be washed by hand, at low temperatures and without spinning. It resists ironing well. It is cool and pleasant to the touch and resists dirt well.
SILK
It does not support very high temperatures or spinning. It should be ironed without steam and at a low temperature. It is strong, light, pleasant to the touch and fixes colors well. It's delicate. Stubborn stains require professional attention.
ACETATE, RAYON OR VISCOSE
They should not be centrifuged to avoid deformations. They have a silky touch and fix the colors well. They have low resistance when wet, burn easily and are charged with static electricity.
POLYESTER OR NYLON
They are sensitive to heat, they should be washed in warm water and ironed at low temperatures without steam. They are very resistant, they wrinkle little and fix the colors well. They burn easily and are charged with static electricity.
